Universal Music Publishing Australia
is thrilled to welcome Melbourne based singer, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist Olivia Bartley, aka Olympia
, to the UMPG family through a worldwide Publishing deal. The announcement was made this week the by President of Universal Music Publishing AU/NZ Andrew Jenkins and Vice President Arwen Curson.
Olympia released her debut album ‘Self Talk
’ to critical acclaim in 2016, which gained her a Triple J feature album spot and high rotation spins for single ‘Smoke Signals
’, a top 30 ARIA debut and an ARIA nomination for ‘Breakthrough Artist’.
On the project, Olympia said; ”My work as an artist has always been process-driven. With each new project, I keep coming back to the notion that the music must be immersive - like film is. I dig for ideas, and write surrounded by photocopies, notes, observations and overdue library books. This led to Self Talk, an album I am immensely proud of. One that reflects on the stories we tell ourselves about who we are, written in response to artists’ work including Alec Soth, Jenny Holtzer, Fiona Hall, Robert Adamson & Dorothy Porter.”
In making the announcement, Curson said; “I was lucky enough to see Olympia play her number 1 winning gig of 2016 in Melbourne last year. She arrived all shoulder pads and metallic brilliance, and tore the roof off with Ziggy Stardust style sass. I have been hooked ever since. Olivia is as impressive a writer as she is performer, bringing originality and creativity in limitless abundance. She’s a rockstar and we are thrilled to welcome her to the UMPG family and to join her on what we know will be a long and successful career.”
Having played festivals such as Groovin The Moo, Golden Plains and Falls Festival, as well as being called upon to support Natalie Prass, Garbage and Paul Dempsey to name a few, 2016 saw Olympia take her own band on a sold out headline tour across Australia.
On joining the UMPG roster Olympia said “This album was made with the help of a small but immensely passionate team, and I’m so thrilled to now include the experienced team at UMP to this project as we move into new work."
Olympia has continued to gain momentum in 2017 and was shortlisted for The Australian Music Prize with ‘Self Talk’. Next up, she’s headed to the UK for Great Escape.
joins a UMP Australia roster that includes Alex The Astonaut, Bag Raiders, Cloves, Cosmos Midnight, Gang of Youths, Guy Sebastian, Holy Holy, Horrorshow, I Know Leopard, Jessica Mauboy, Jonti, JOY., Maribelle, M-Phazes, Sons of The East, Peking Duk, Thief, The Veronicas, Vera Blue, Woodes
